## Why this exists

Most of what a new starter needs to know already exists somewhere in the company. That's the annoying bit. It isn't missing, it's scattered: half in a document nobody's opened since it was written, half in someone's head, the rest in a chat thread from months back that's been buried by everything since. So the first few weeks of any job become a kind of treasure hunt. Who do I ask? Where's the current version? Is this still true?

Forematter exists to fix that. Not by replacing the people who hold that knowledge, but by making the company able to explain itself properly, with every answer traceable back to where it came from and to a named person who owns it. That's the whole idea. Simple to say, less simple to build, which is sort of why I'm building it.

## The principles

They're pretty plain, I think.

Answers come from the company's own approved documents, not from guessing or general knowledge floating about. If it doesn't know something, it says so and asks the person who does, rather than making up something that sounds confident. That matters more than it sounds like it should.

People stay in charge of what's true. Admins approve the documents and publish the onboarding modules. Nothing gets decided by the system on its own.

And privacy is the default, not an afterthought. Conversations stay private unless a company deliberately turns on visibility, and even then the employee is told first and every read is recorded where they can see it. Forematter never uses company content to train AI models, and everything is stored in the UK.

If I had to sum it up: the tool should be boringly trustworthy. No surprises, no black boxes, no "the system decided".

## Who's behind it

I'm Jack Stovell, and Forematter is made by Adapt Progress Evolve Limited, a UK company. It's still in development and not open to customers yet, so there's nothing to sign up for just this second.
